Chuck is standing over me asking me to wake up and take him to play paintball. I mutter some sort of expletive and lay my head back on the pillow. Chuck continues walking around talking to someone ? I'm amazed anyone is up yet ? and I inform him that he's "currently at a 7 and needs to be at a 4." After about 45 minutes of this, I give up on the idea of going back to sleep.

Somewhere about the same time, Suli rejoined the land of the living and took over the kitchen, preparing one of the best breakfasts this city boy has ever had. Just phenomenal.

Sunday morning is never complete without political debates in the media, and this was no exception as The McLaughlin Group seemed to form up in the dining room. I'd been a good boy and avoided politics for most of the weekend and decide to keep it that way, heading across the room as Caleb, David, and Sassafrass square off.

Meanwhile, Suli packs her stuff up and we toss it in the back of my car. Chuck and Dave throw what's left of the keg in the back of Dave's truck. The first round of goodbyes takes place ? and with that I drive Suli and her bloody mary to the airport.

Sunday, August 25th 1400 EDT

After some lunch and a hot shower, I sat down in front of the computer and tried to recap some of the weekend. I didn't even know where to start. I decided to drive back out to the Olsen's.

I was glad to make it back in time to see David briefly before he left for the long drive back to Iowa.

After that, Sassafrass, Marc, Moxie, and I spent most of the afternoon talking about the night before, life, people, nothing, and everything. Eric returned the land of the living. Dawn returned from running Caleb to the airport. I could have sat on that deck talking and laughing for weeks, given the opportunity.

All good things must come to an end. I promise Dawn and Eric that I'll be seeing more of them in the near future and advise Marc that I'll definitely be making a trip up to Toronto before the end of the year. Everyone was exhausted and drained ? and satisfied. I gave Moxie a ride to her hotel, carried her bags into the lobby and after a quick hug goodbye, disappeared back into the city ? my weekend was officially over.

"So this is everything that you recall from the weekend?"

"Everything."

"Thank you Mister Dever. Should we have any other questions, we'll be in contact. For the moment, you should consider yourself on modified assignment pending the outcome of our investigation..."

The Cast

Dawn Olsen ? I doubt we would have had nearly the turnout we did without Dawn. She's funny, sweet, and an absolute trip to party with. Oh, did I mention she's arguably the sexiest woman in any room she enters? She seems to know everyone who runs a blog and chided, quilted, shamed, or enticed a variety of people into coming to Cleveland.

Eric Olsen ? The man who has to put up with the woman. Possibly up for laid-back guy of the year award, I'm not sure that it's possible to faze him. His knowledge of music is encyclopedic and his vinyl and CD collection is breathtaking. (I don't know about you, Eric, but I thought that was one talented dude who mixed that CD we were listening to late night.)

Marc Weisblott ? It was a real treat to meet Marc. He's one of the most amusing, cynical, jaded bastards I've ever met. (I don't give a much higher compliment.) Marc has a certain flair for capturing an experience when he writes or talks about it. His website may not be the most frequently updated ? but it has something worth saying most times that it is. He's also full of ideas, looking at realistic ways to be on the cutting edge of this whole "new media" craze. A truly fantastic guy - I can't wait to go harass him in his hometown.

Moxie ? What can I say that hasn't been said before? All the typical nice words come to mind ? smart, funny, beautiful, and down-to-earth. I cannot possibly write enough kind things to describe the kind of sweetheart she is. Here's a girl who has everything going for her and yet was the most approachable person in the room. Absolutely amazing. The trick is to get over the initial reaction of wanting to hit on her long enough to get to know her a bit. If the Mox ever decides she needs another person to fill a surrogate big brother role, I hope she gives me a call.

Suli ? A drunken Martha Stewart. Suli pulled everyone together, was always good for a laugh, and exhibited just slightly more impulse control than Chuck. Needless to say, I find those to be good traits. Suli busted her butt along with Dawn to make sure we were all having a great time and for that I'm eternally grateful.

David Hogberg ? This guy came in all the way from Iowa to drink with the cool kids. And drink he did. David gets the award for drunkest guy at the party, I think. And dude, I need to order one of those cornfield commentary t-shirts.

Sassafrass ? The yin to my yang so-to-speak. A liberal that I actually found common ground with by the end of a weekend. Amazing.

John Scalzi ? Another very good dude. Highly intelligent with a sharp wit. I didn't talk with John as much as I would have liked to, mostly because the more I drank, the more I was outside chain smoking. But that's why there's e-mail.

Caleb Brown ? Young. Very Young. I'd never heard of Caleb before the weekend, but having met him, I'm glad he made the trip up from Kentucky. I just hope we didn't scare him off too badly.

Chas and Holley ? I actually agreed with them (to be polite) when they told me the East side was better than the West side. Why would I do that? Because they were a fine looking couple having a great time. (Ok, so they didn't actually say the East was better. But it sounded better that way, really.) Thanks for coming out you two! I'm honored to have been there for your first night out after the new family addition.

Matt Moore ? He's tall. And he's kind of an asshole. A really tall asshole. (Ok, so Matt Moore wasn't there, and that's a damn shame. I wish he could have made it in from Denver.)

(Now that this triology is complete, I will resume normal operations around here.)
